Celebrates with us Michelangelo’s birthday and the anniversary of the Association of the Friends of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence

6 March is an important day. Michelangelo Buonarroti was born in 1475 and the Association of Friends of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence was established in 2017! To celebrate these important anniversaries, on Wednesday 6 March 2024, the Gallery and the Friends invite you to a special evening for members and for those who wish to be part of it, by registering either in the days before or that same evening.

The Association of Friends of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence has been at our side since 2017,” director Cecilie Hollberg told us. “It is now an integral part of this museum, participating in all our activities that it supports with commitment and perseverance. We are grateful for the work they do in collaboration with the staff of the Gallery to involve young people, Florentines, Italians and many foreigners with the aim of consolidating the link with the territory, so that it is increasingly strong and rooted. It’s nice to be here today, like every 6 March, for the past eight years, to celebrate these anniversaries together, and renew our friendship.”

“The Friends of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence,” said Fausto Calderai, president of the Association, “look to the future of the Association, happy to have been able to support a Museum that after 8 years has been renovated under the guidance of an enlightened and innovative management, but always respectful of the Institution’s glorious past.”

On Wednesday 6 March there will be an extraordinary opening, from 7 pm to 10 pm for all members, old and new. The evening will be introduced by the director Cecilie Hollberg, followed by an exclusive visit to the exhibition Pier Francesco Foschi (1502-1567) a Florentine painter, with Elvira Altiero, Art Historian Officer, head of the art-historical department of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, and with Nelda Damiano, Pierre Daura Curator of European Art, Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia, who curated the exhibition together with Cecilie Hollberg and Simone Giordani, professor of Art History, specialist in Pier Francesco Foschi.

Participation is reserved for members of the Association, but it is possible to join, even in the days before, online on the website of the Friends of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence (Friends of David) or directly on 6 March at the entrance of the Gallery. We are waiting for you to celebrate Michelangelo together! And don’t forget that members of the Association have free and priority entry to the Gallery, valid for one year, as well as many other benefits.
