A winter of art and music: visits and educational workshops
Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze e i Musei del bargellorenew their commitment to education and the valorization of their heritage, offering a rich calendar of educational activities dedicated to a variety of audiences, from young visitors and their families to primary and secondary school classes.
From November 15th to 29th three free events will guide families with children aged 6 to 12 through the collections of the museo Nazionale del Bargello, the Orsanmichele Complex, and the Medici Chapels Museum.
On Saturday, November 15th, at 4:00 PM, there’s Orsanmichele, il gioco delle arti (recommended age: 6-10), among the majestic sculptures of the Orsanmichele Complex. Thanks to the kit provided to children, families will play a series of games together to discover the arts and crafts of the past.
On Saturday, November 22th, at 4:00 PM, Alla corte di re e cavalieri will guide children aged 9 to 12 through the stories of valiant leaders, betrayals, and life-or-death battles in the halls of Museo nazionale del Bargello. The little ones will hear the adventures of the brave Roland and his trusty sword, Durendal. A unique tapestry from distant places and times will guide you through these intricate stories.
On Saturday, November 29th, the eve of the Festa della Toscana, children will be invited to participate in Toscana in festa. Indovina la città, a themed tour of the Medici Chapels Museum, where they can discover curiosities and monuments of the region’s most important cities, starting with the coats of arms depicted inside the Cappella dei Principi (Meeting at 4:00 PM. Recommended age: 10-12).
The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze will offer a comprehensive program of educational workshops inspired by the collection of Medici and Lorraine musical instruments housed in the Museum of Musical Instruments. The workshops, free and by reservation, are organized in collaboration with the Centro Studi Musica & Arte di Firenze (CSMA) and are aimed at primary schools and middle and high schools. The activities consist of two sessions: a hands-on activity at the CSMA (Via Pietrapiana, 32 nero, 50121, Florence) and a guided tour of the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze.
The Aria, archi e corde series will be held on November 20th and 27th, followed on November 28th and December 2nd by Archi, tasti e corde, during which students will have the opportunity to explore and learn about musical instruments from various cultures and eras. The Aria, archi e corde workshop will return on December 9th and 16th, while the Archi, tasti e corde workshop will conclude its series on February 19th and 26th, 2026.
Middle school students will be able to participate in the Viaggio fra gli strumenti musicali del mondo workshop, scheduled for January 20th and 27th, 2026, and February 10th and 17th, 2026. This workshop will explore instruments from different cultures and countries, with rhythmic, vocal, and manual exercises that stimulate creativity and coordination.
Finally, for high schools, the Florentine museum offers a journey through music, art, and philosophy. It begins on December 1st and 10th with Mnemosyne, dedicated to the ritual and pedagogical use of music from ancient civilizations to the Baroque period. On January 12th and 21st, 2026, it will be the turn of La Musica del Granduca, a program recommended for high schools of music that reconstructs the birth of melodrama and Florentine musical life between the 17th and 18th centuries. On January 26th and February 3rd, 2026, and again on February 5th and 12th, 2026, Le stanze di Orfeo will be held, intertwining the history of music and art, right down to the roots of Florentine melodrama, a moment that represents a joyful and unsurpassed union of fashion, costume, theater, poetry, music, and art. Finally, on February 16th and 24th, 2026, La Musica del Granduca will close the cycle.
Activities at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, the Medici Chapels Museum, and the Orsanmichele Complex last approximately one hour. Children are free to attend, while accompanying adults must purchase a standard museum ticket (full price: €10.00; reduced price: €2.00 for Italian and EU citizens aged 18 to 25). It is recommended that an accompanying adult be present for each child (or group of children), who must be available for the entire duration of the activity. Reservations are required and must be made by emailing mn-bar.didattica@cultura.gov.it (reservations are open until 12:00 noon of the previous Friday).
For school activities at the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze reservations are required and can be made through Centro Studi Musica & Arte (info@musicarte.it – tel. +39 055 3860572), providing a list of participants and the contact information of the teacher in charge (groups of up to 20 people). Museum admission is free for students and accompanying teachers.
