Art between market and museum

An evening at the Galleria dell'Accademia of Florence to celebrate the birthday of Michelangelo and the Friends of David association

The Director of Galleria dell’Accademia of Florence, Cecilie Hollberg, organizes for March 6th, 2019 an evening of celebration at the museum to celebrate the birthday of Michelangelo Buonarroti and the entry into the third year of activity of the Friends of Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze.

To celebrate this important anniversary, the round table “Art between market and museum” will be held at the Tribuna del David, in the presence of the Director, Cecilie Hollberg, of Carlo Orsi, antique dealer in Milan and London, by Carl Brandon Strehlke, Art historian and member Vetting at TEFAF of Maastricht and Angelo Tartuferi, art historian and director of the Export Office and objects of antiquity and art of Florence; moderator will be Fausto Calderai, president of the Friends Association of Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze.

“The round table – explains Cecilie Hollberg – intends to raise awareness on a theme full of cues for reflection, that of the relationship between museum and market, and offer the public a look behind the scenes of what happens when a public institution moves to increase their collections with new acquisitions. How are the works assessed in relation to the antique market? And, on the other hand, how should a private person behave in order to donate or sell his own assets to a museum? The round table intends to offer different points of view on these subjects, but often intersecting: that of the manager of the cultural institution and that of the representatives of the world of the antiquarian market “.

The theme of the round table is in line with the objective of the exhibition set up from January 22nd and underway until May 5th “New Acquisitions 2016-2018”, to make the general public understand how a public institution of international importance, as Galleria dell’Accademia of Florence, is committed not only to the conservation of its collections, but also to their increase through acquisitions, donations, assignments for confiscation.

After the round table, it will be possible to visit the exhibition until 9.00 pm.

During the evening, at a post in the Sala del Colosso, starting at 7.00 p.m., it will also be possible to renew or subscribe from scratch the membership of the Friends of Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze. The Association of Friends of Galleria dell’Accademia was founded in 2017; in this period he contributed with commitment and constancy to the activities of the Museum, with the primary objective of improving the experience of this exceptional place of art and culture, through involvement, knowledge and dissemination. New projects are being developed, for the future.
