The Italian Museums present themselves: Peter Aufreiter, director of National Gallery of the Marche

A trip to Italy of museums through the story of their directors

The series of meetings organized by the Director of the Accademia Gallery in Florence, Cecilie Hollberg, continues: “The Italian Museums present themselves”: the next scheduled appointment is Monday 4 March, at 6.30 pm, in the David’s Tribune, with Peter Aufreiter, director of Galleria Nazionale delle Marche Palazzo Ducale di Urbino e Polo Museale delle Marche.

The review of meetings, conceived by the director Cecilie Hollberg, aims to introduce important museums of Italy and discover their treasures thanks to exceptional guides. Every first Monday of the month, from February to November, the Museums will be illustrated by their Director who will tell the story, the adventures, the collections and the masterpieces held in them. They will be able to tell their experiences by allowing the public to know the Museums from behind the scenes. The meetings will also be an opportunity to discover better the Belpaese and can be an inspiration to plan a journey through the beauties and wonders scattered throughout Italy.

“With great pleasure and honor we continue the review – says Cecilie Hollberg, Director of the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze – after the first appointment of last February 4 which recorded the presence of a large and interested audience at the conference of Martina Bagnoli, Director of Estensi Galleries: I thought of this series of meetings to give the public the opportunity to learn more about the Italian artistic masterpieces that, from the Grand Tour, attract visitors from all over the world: on March 4th Peter Aufreiter will take us to discover Urbino, cradle of the Renaissance and the splendid Palazzo Ducale, the perfect setting for a collection that houses, among others, famous masterpieces by Piero della Francesca, Raffaello, Giovanni Bellini, Lorenzo Lotto, a wonderful opportunity to discover the novelties of this city and the splendid Marche region”.

Peter Aufreiter graduated in History of Art and Germanic Philology at the University of Vienna and did a year of study at the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo” which was fundamental for his connection with the city. It comes from a ten-year experience in the museum field gained in Vienna, first at the Private Foundation of the Sigmud Freud Museum, then at the Kunsthistorisches Museum and finally at the Belvedere, dealing mainly with the organization of exhibitions and finally as Director of the exhibitions department, loan department, department stores and the Artoteca. He is currently Director of Galleria Nazionale delle Marche Palazzo Ducale di Urbino and Polo Museale delle Marche (State Antiquarium – Numana, Museo Archeologico Nazionale of Marche – Ancona, Museo Archeologico Statale – Arcevia, Museo Archeologico Statale – Ascoli Piceno, Museo Archeologico Statale – Urbisaglia, Museo Archeologico of Cingoli Moscosi, Museo Tattile Statale “Omero” – Ancona, Rocca Demaniale – Gradara, Rocca Roveresca – Senigallia).
