Monday, June 3rd at 6.30 pm: Marco Pierini, director of Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria

The series of meetings organized by the Director of Galleria dell’Accademia of Florence, Cecilie Hollberg, continues: “The Italian Museums present themselves”: the next scheduled appointment is Monday, June 3rd, at 6.30 pm, in the David’s Tribune, with Marco Pierini, director of Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria e del Polo Museale dell’Umbria.

The Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria, which is housed in the Palazzo dei Priori in Perugia, houses a rich and typologically diverse collection of artistic production developed between the 13th and 16th centuries in Umbria and central Italy, extending then, chronologically, until the 19th century. It ranges from panel paintings, canvas and frescoes, to wooden and stone sculptures, from goldsmiths to miniatures, drawings, fabrics and ceramics. The current exhibition itinerary is on two levels and also allows the visit of the Cappella dei Priori, frescoed by Benedetto Bonfigli. The prestige of the collection is evidenced by the presence of some vertices of medieval and Renaissance art, with works by Arnolfo di Cambio, Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, Duccio di Boninsegna, Gentile da Fabriano, Beato Angelico (Pala della Sapienza Nuova), Benozzo Gozzoli, Piero della Francesca (Pala di San’Antonio) and Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Ample space is reserved for the Umbrian artists Benedetto Bonfigli, Bartolomeo Caporali, Fiorenzo di Lorenzo and, in particular, the famous paintings by Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino (Adorazione dei Magi, Annunciazione, Pietà, Polittico di Sant’Agostino) and Bernardino di Betto known as Pinturicchio, present with one of its greatest masterpieces, the Pala di Santa Maria dei Fossi.
