May 18TH, 2019 – Night of the Museums
The Galleria dell’Accademia of Florence as part of the Festival of Museums, Saturday May 18th 2019, adheres to the European Museum Night with the extraordinary opening of the museum from 7 to 10 pm, with an admission ticket at the symbolic cost of 1 euro (except the gratuities provided for by law).
For the Festival, the Educational Services Department of the museum proposes the visit itinerary “Chalks in the moonlight”: two free guided visits to the Gipsoteca, section of the museum that houses the collection of nineteenth-century plaster casts by Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni. The works are the original models of portraits, monuments and sculptures in the round, then made of marble. A precious treasure inside a very special treasure chest: in ancient times this room was the women’s lane of the medieval hospital of San Matteo. Suppressed in the Lorraine period, this environment was annexed to the Academy of Fine Arts and was used during the nineteenth century to exhibit the winning works of the institute’s annual competitions.
Visits are free, included in the regular admission ticket. The meeting point is fixed at the entrance of the Gipsoteca, with the start of the visit at 7.30 pm for the first group, at 9 pm for the second. For each group there is a maximum of 25 participants.
