Art Stories: Activities and discoveries for kids and adults
New activities and workshops for children are planned for March 2026 at the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, Palazzo Davanzati, and Museo delle Cappelle medicee. Here’s the schedule:
PALAZZO DAVANZATI – How do you dress?
Who said fashion is only for adults? Let’s try to find out by taking a journey through Palazzo Davanzati’s rich collection of lace and embroidery.
Fashion will help us understand and appreciate the differences between clothing and accessories throughout the centuries. Scissors and other techniques will help us develop “copies” of lace and embroidery based on what we see in the exhibition. We will play and test the patience behind this work according to our own taste, drawing on elements of past fashions, simulating a very complicated technique with various choices.
Saturday, March 21st, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Recommended age: 8-11 years.
Activity for groups of up to 10 children.
Reservations required: ga-afi-mn-bar.didattica@cultura.gov.it
GALLERIA DELL’ACCADEMIA DI FIRENZE – The art of drawing, or thinking through lines
In 1563, Giorgio Vasari founded the Accademia as a center for the training and development of artists, elevating the art of drawing to the basis of all figurative arts. Drawing thus became the theoretical and practical foundation of the arts, an intellectual and technical prerequisite, capable of uniting design and representation, transforming art into a scientific and philosophical discipline.
This activity involves the observation of an architectural and/or artistic element, introducing participants to the basics of life drawing.
Saturday, March 28th, 10:30 am | Workshop for families with children aged 8 to 12.
Activity for groups of up to 10 children.
Reservations required: ga-afi-mn-bar.didattica@cultura.gov.it or info@culter.it
MUSEO DELLE CAPPELLE MEDICEE – A journey with semi-precious stones
A variety of materials with surprising provenances; by investigating their history and discovering the inlay technique, this activity aims to stimulate the observation skills of a work of art. The visit allows you to discuss a wide range of topics: the Medici family’s patrons, the colors and characteristics of the stones that clad the works, the cost and methods of transportation, and processing techniques.
Saturday, March 28th, 4:00 PM | Workshop led by museum staff
Maximum number of participants: 10 children
Reservations required by 12:00 PM on the previous friday by emailing: ga-afi-mn-bar.didattica@cultura.gov.it
Reservations remain open until 12:00 PM the day before the activity. Admission is free. Payment of the entrance ticket for accompanying adults/booking fee is required, with exemptions and reductions available as required by law.
