Conference ‘Michelangelo and Vittoria Colonna, a friendship in the name of art’ – Monday, March 10th 2025
Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze celebrates the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti with ‘L’eterno contemporaneo. Michelangelo 1475 – 2025‘, a project that will start on March, Thursday 6th 2025 and will develop over the course of the year through a rich program of events and initiatives, designed to highlight the extraordinary relevance of one of the most significant protagonists of the Renaissance. His artistic vision, his innovative spirit and the expressive power of his works continue to exert a profound influence on artists, scholars and audiences of all times. Michelangelo, even today, inspires new reflections and interpretations.
a series of conferences will delve into the brilliant and tormented personality of the artist and his influence on the history of art. Cristina Acidini will open the cycle on Monday, March 10th at 5.30 pm with a speech on Michelangelo and Vittoria Colonna, a friendship in the name of art, among the most singular relationships of the Italian Renaissance, investigated in its spiritual, religious and political implications. From 1536 or ’38 until her death in 1547, Michelangelo, a mature man, already famous, and the Marchioness of Pescara, a woman of power and poet, met and wrote to each other. To Vittoria, Michelangelo offers drawings suitable for meditation, first of all on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, but also on the theme, dear to her, of the women in the life of Jesus: Maria, the Magdalene, the Samaritan.
