2023 EHD – European Heritage Days
Museum initiatives for the European Heritage Days (23-24 September 2023)
The EHD – European Heritage Days, the largest and most popular cultural event in Europe, return on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 September.
The Italian theme takes up the European slogan “Living Heritage”, promoted by the Council of Europe and shared by the member countries, underlining the importance of cultural heritage, including intangible heritage, whereby traditions and different types of knowledge are combined and conveyed, protecting them for future generations.
The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze participates in the event with two events:
- Saturday 23 September, at 5.00 pm: “From thread to art”, an original interpretation of certain paintings in the museum’s collections. Through the language of the Thread Arts, we will go on a path to discover the secrets of painted lace in the two Annunciations by Alessandro Allori and the astonishing technique of embroidery with silk and gold and silver threads performed by Jacopo Cambi in the splendid frontal with the Coronation of the Virgin. Accompanying us on this visit will be Adriana Armanni, the Founder and President of the Corporation of the Arts, a trade association that protects and promotes the teaching of Thread Arts (embroidery, lace, weaving and non-sartorial sewing), assisted by the art historian Anna Giovannelli. The guided tour is in Italian and lasts one hour. It will be free-of-charge and you can gain access with just the entrance ticket to the Galleria (13 Euros).
SOLD OUT
- Saturday 23 September, from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm (last entry 9.30 pm): special evening opening of the museum. No reservations are required and the ticket cost is 2 euros. For each ticket sold 1 Euro will be donated to aid the restoration of the cultural heritage damaged in the flooded areas of Emilia-Romagna.
