Il „Cantico delle Creature“: follow the symbols of Peace!
The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze s taking part in the twelfth edition of „Firenze dei Bambini“ with an educational activity titled Il Cantico delle Creature alla Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze. Segui i simboli della Pace!
The Cantico delle Creature is a very important work: it is considered indeed as the first masterpiece of Italian literature and it is a poem that celebrates nature and conveys a message of peace and harmony among all living beings.
In the Cantico delle Creature, Saint Francis describes the wonders of creation, highlighting the beauty of natural elements such as the sun, water, fire, clouds, stars, fruits, flowers, and more. His message has inspired art, music, and ecological thought.
The Educational Services of the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze have created an itinerary that begins in the Sala dei Giotteschi, where museum staff narrate St. Francis and the Cantico delle Creature through Taddeo Gaddi’s paintings of Stories of St. Francis and Christ.
The activity continues with a special symbol hunt, which children and families can do on their own, dwelling on some of the works in the museum that depict the wonders of nature recounted in the Cantico delle Creature.
The map will help you find them. You can then admire the paintings in our rooms and have fun looking for the elements of nature mentioned by St. Francis (sun, water, fire, clouds, stars, fruits, flowers, etc.) and the symbols of peace (dove, olive tree, etc.)!
Take a photo of your favorite elements and symbols and share them on social media by tagging the museum. Find us on Facebook (@galleriadellaccademia) and Instagram (@galleriaaccademiafirenze).
