L’eterno contemporaneo. Multi-faceted expressions and interdisciplinary interactions between architecture and the arts

Call for scientific contributions

On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s birth (1475), the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, in collaboration with the international journal Mimesis.jsad Journal of Science of Architectural Drawing, is promoting a call for scientific contributions exploring the theme of multi-faceted expressions in the arts, with particular attention to the interdisciplinary interactions between architecture and different artistic and cultural fields.

Michelangelo, an emblematic figure of the Renaissance, embodies the ideal of the multi-faceted artist, capable of ranging between painting, sculpture, architecture and poetry. Starting from his legacy, the call invites us to reflect on experiences, figures or works that manifest such expressive richness, analysing connections and comparisons between different disciplines.

Contributions may explore, for example, the following themes:

  • Analogies and differences between artistic languages (painting, sculpture, architecture, music, literature, etc.);
  • Comparisons between different artistic figures;
  • Comparisons between different artistic works, using the tools of graphic thinking;
  • Historical or contemporary personalities who have worked in several artistic fields;
  • Transversal themes, such as asceticism, spirituality or formal research, analysed through interdisciplinary perspectives;
  • The role of multiformity in architectural and artistic creation and critical research;
