Presenza di Michelangelo nell’arte e nella cultura contemporanea
Marco Pierini shows the influence of Michelangelo in 20th-century visual culture
On Monday 12 May (5.30 pm), the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze will host the third appointment of the retrospective L’eterno contemporaneo. Michelangelo 1475 – 2025, conceived to celebrate Michelangelo Buonarroti on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of his birth.
The Florentine museum is pleased to welcome Professor Marco Pierini – former director of the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria di Perugia, the Galleria civica di Modena and the Centro Arte Contemporanea di Siena. The Art Historian will give a lecture entitled Presenza di Michelangelo nell’arte e nella cultura contemporanea.
The theme of the evening is the immense influence of Michelangelo’s work in 20th-century visual culture. Pierini will highlight how Michelangelo serves as a unifying thread linking figures such as Giulio Aristide Sartorio and Robert Mapplethorpe, Leoncillo and Jan Fabre, Renato Guttuso and Kendell Geers. Michelangelo’s impact extends beyond the visual arts to architecture, cinema, popular culture, and music.
