The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze is pleased to announce the publication of the volume Pier Francesco Foschi. I restauri delle opere.

The work collects the proceedings of the afternoon of studies held on March 4, 2024, dedicated to the restorations carried out on the occasion of the exhibition Pier Francesco Foschi (1502-1567) Florentine Painter – on display at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence from November 28, 2023 to March 10, 2024.

Pier Francesco Foschi was a pupil of Andrea del Sarto, a collaborator of Pontormo and a painter highly appreciated by the Florentine patrons of his time for his extraordinary technical skill, formal balance and compositional clarity that characterized his style. The numerous commissions he received, both in Florence and in the Tuscan territory, testify to the success Foschi experienced throughout his career.

The interventions of restorers and essays by art historians offer an opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the artist and retrace, step by step, the conservation operations that returned some of his most significant works to the public. Prominent among them is the majestic altarpiece of the Transfiguration, created for the Augustinian basilica of Santo Spirito in Florence, a masterpiece already mentioned by Vasari.
