Conference ‚Michelangelo’s David: prehistory and protohistory‘ – Monday, April 7th 2025

The Galleria dell’Accademiadi Firenzee celebrates the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti with ‚The Eternal Contemporary. Michelangelo 1475 – 2025‚, a project that will begin on March 6th, 2025 and will develop throughout the year through a rich program of events and initiatives, designed to highlight the extraordinary relevance of one of the most significant protagonists of the Renaissance. His artistic vision, his innovative spirit and the expressive power of his works continue to exert a profound influence on artists, scholars and the public of every era. Michelangelo, even today, inspires new reflections and interpretations.

On Monday, April 7th at 5:30 pm, the appointment will be with Francesco Caglioti, Professor of Medieval Art History at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, with the conference‘Michelangelo’s David: prehistory and protohistory‘. In his presentation, Francesco Caglioti will address the theme of Michelangelo’s David, a consecrated icon of the Renaissance, focusing on the genesis of the work within a long-term historical perspective. The immediate and triumphant success of the statue was in fact also favored by the patient wait that Tuscan art had experienced, from generation to generation, towards a figure like this, capable of challenging the space around a cathedral at great heights.
