Exhibition of the painting “La Galleria dei quadri antichi” by Odoardo Borrani
The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze renews and enriches its exhibition space with a painting by Odoardo Borrani (Pisa, 1833-Florence, 1905), La Galleria dei quadri antichi della Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, owned by the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, which has donated it to the florentine museum for a long-term loan.
The painting, likely conceived with other canvases depicting rooms in the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze painted by Borrani probably around the 1880s, had never been exhibited to the public before. Visitors will be able to admire it in the left transept, at the entrance to the Gipsoteca, in dialogue with the work Alla Galleria dell’Accademia which depicts the so-called Sala dei quadri grandi.
The renewed exhibition space also represented the opportunity to exhibit to the public, inside the Gipsoteca, a painting by Stefano Ussi (Florence, 1836-1922), Interno con Odalisca, owned by the Accademia dell’Arte del Disegno, which had been on deposit at the Galleria dell’Accademia for some time but had never been exhibited to the public until now.
