European Heritage Days 2025 – Architecture: The Art of Building
The European Heritage Days return on Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th, 2025. This is the largest cultural event in Europe, coordinated for Italy by the Ministry of Culture. The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze is involved in the initiative by offering themed guided tours and a brochure inspired by this year’s theme Architecture: The Art of Building. Furthermore, on Saturday, September 27th, the florentine museum will be open until 10 pm (last admission at 9:15 pm), with admission at the symbolic price of €1 (excluding any free admission) starting at 7 pm.
This year, the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze is participating with a special opportunity to rediscover the value of Italy’s cultural heritage, engaging visitors in an experience of art, architecture, and history within one of Italy’s most iconic cultural sites.
Themed tours, led by museum staff, will take place only on Saturday, September 27th, every 30 minutes, from 8:40 am to 12:40 pm and from 2:20 pm to 6:20 pm. Reservations are not required; simply go to the meeting point at the Sala del Colosso.
The exhibition is divided into three thematic strands: the first explores the “royal” architecture of the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, recounting its transformations over time, from the foundation of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1784 to the nineteenth-century interventions.
The second thematic thread concerns “painted architecture” in medieval and Renaissance works. In these works, architecture is never merely a backdrop, but often takes on a symbolic role linked to civic, religious, or spiritual values.
The journey will conclude with an exploration of medieval polyptychs, true examples of “architecture in miniature.”
Reservations will not be available on Saturday, September 27th, from 7 pm to 10 pm. Reservations are still available and strongly recommended for all other days from Tuesday to Sunday (at a cost of €4), including September 27th for the time slots from 8:15 am to 6:50 pm (last admission at 6:20 PM).
