Il David di Michelangelo: preistoria e protostoria
Francesco Caglioti talks about the genesis of Michelangelo's famous sculpture
On Monday 7 April (5.30 pm), the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze will host the second appointment of the retrospective L’eterno contemporaneo. Michelangelo 1475 – 2025, conceived to celebrate Michelangelo Buonarroti on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of his birth..
The Florentine museum is pleased to welcome Professor Francesco Caglioti – Ordinary of Medieval Art History at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa considered one of the most important voices on Renaissance sculpture. The Academic will give a lecture entitled Il David di Michelangelo: preistoria e protostoria.
The theme of the evening is Michelangelo’s David, with a focus on the genesis of the work within a long-term historical perspective. The immediate and triumphal success of the statue was in fact favoured by the patient wait that Tuscan art had experienced, from generation to generation, for a figure such as David, capable of challenging the space around a cathedral to great heights.
Admission to the event is free while places last.
