Giovanni dal Ponte: Protagonist of Late Gothic Florentine Humanism
Curated by Angelo Tartuferi and Lorenzo Sbaraglio
Location:
Galleria dell’accademia di Firenze
It is the first monographic exhibition dedicated to this Florentine painter (1385-1437 or so), formed within the solid figurative late fourteenth-century tradition, under the decisive influence of Gherardo Starnina and Lorenzo Monaco, without ignoring the Ghiberti sculpture.
The exhibition offers an assessment of the research concerning Giovanni di Marco, better known as Giovanni dal Ponte, that in recent years has reported a notable impulse, presenting for the first time a path through his activity marked by works of the highest executive quality and of great historical, typological and iconographic significance.
The main objective is to foster a more adequate critical classification of this strong personality of the early fifteenth century, which certainly occupied a significant role in the development of the Florentine painting of the time.
